Hasht-e Subh – The World Health Organization (WHO), during a conference being held on March 29 – March 31 in Doha, the capital of Qatar has announced in a statement to review gaps and challenges in providing health, nutrition services, and identify alternative treatment approaches on how to tackle the health sector crises in Afghanistan.
According to the statement, representatives of WHO, UNICEF, Qatar, Taliban regime, donors, and other humanitarian partners are attending the conference.
As stated by WHO, discussion on feasible approaches to support the implementation of Afghanistan’s National Emergency Action Plan so as to eradicate Polio is one of the major topics of the conference.
In addition, approaches and strategies to strengthen the accountability of the Afghan people to support the health sector, including monitoring the effectiveness of international support, are other highlights of this gathering.
The World Health Organization summit comes as Afghanistan faces a combination of economic instability, severe drought, food insecurity, rising malnutrition, and the COVID-19 epidemic.
Afghanistan used to fight with all these challenges during the former government too, but with the fall of the government to rebels’ control, the crises have significantly increased and halted the normal civil service in most of the civil service institutions.
