Alexander Cooley: China to Position Itself as the Leader of Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan

China tries to position itself as a leading champion in humanitarian aid and economic development projects during the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbors.

Hasht-e Subh – Alexander Cooley, a political science expert at Columbia University, has said that China is quietly positioning itself as a leading superpower in the region.

According to Cooley, China tries to position itself as a leading champion in humanitarian aid and economic development projects during the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbors that is being held in China.

As stated by Cooley, China would call on the United States to release Afghanistan’s assets during the meeting.

In an interview with Associated Press, Mr. Alexander Cooley stated that China the ball is now on China’s ground and it will obviously try to position it as an alternative leader to a humanitarian coalition of Afghanistan’s neighbors.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera news channel reported on Wednesday, March 30, that China has adopted neutral policies concerning the recent moves of Taliban such as closing the education doors to girls, imposing several other restrictions which are not only against the human rights values but are not based on religion.

China has neither voted against these moves nor has recognized the Taliban as the ruler of Afghanistan.

Since the collapse of the former government, China has been one of the countries among the very close supporter of Taliban with its embassy active in Kabul. Considering the complications of the politics, Iran, Pakistan, China, Qatar, and Other Arabic countries were the first expected to welcome Taliban’s government and recognize it as a legitimate government in Afghanistan.

But the Taliban outdated ideology and the policy removal policy that they have adopted have created certain barriers to their recognition. After seven months of the takeover, Taliban have failed to align their policies and strategies according to the realities of Afghanistan society. They have been against any value that the international community during the past 20 years had invested in. They have been continuously violating human rights for which the international community has invested billions of funds so far.
