RRR wins another Oscar for India

S. Rajamouli’s much acclaimed RRR’s song ‘Natu Natu’ has won Best Original Song at the Oscars. ‘Naatu Naatu’ was nominated along with ‘Applause’ from Tell It Like A Woman, ‘Lift Me Up’ from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ‘This Is A Life’ from Everything Everywhere All At Once, and ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick movie.

A.R Rahman won 2 Oscars in 2009 for best Song Jai Ho and best score for the film Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman says that this win will lift up India again. All three Oscars from India have been musicians from South India.

Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the original singers performed ‘Naatu Naatu’ live for the guests at the 95th Academy Awards. MM Keeravaani has composed Naatu Naatu’s music while its lyrics are penned by Chandrabose.

‘Naatu Naatu’ has already won a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globes Award and a Hollywood Critics Association award.

At the 95th Academy Awards, three different Indian productions received Oscar nominations, with both RRR (feature film) and The Elephant Whisperers (Documentary short film) winning their respective categories and thus becoming the first Indian full length feature film and first Indian Documentary short film to win the Oscars.[10] Several Indians and Indian Americans have received the Oscars in the technical category like Rahul Thakkar, Cottalango Leon and Vikas Sathaye.
