Set in Toronto’s AIDS hospice Casey House in 1991, during Princess Dina’s and Prince Charles Visit to Toronto at the height of the AIDSs pandemic, when Princess Dian visited Casey House, Nick Green’s play Casey and Diana is an inspiration on dealing with current Opiod crisis.
I got to see the Arts Club Theater’s production in Vancouver on the closing weekend. I’m glad I got to see it just before it closed. While the late Princess Diana is the backdrop of the story, it shows some of struggles of affected by AIDS crisis including those to who died and survived and the front-line workers who lived through the crisis. Diana’s compassion for public support for those dealing with AIDS gave much needed awareness and increased funding for the crisis.
This play is well written showing great emotions and imagery. The Vancouver production really brought the story to where the crisis was largely experienced. It also showed a lot similarities to the currently opioid. The play shows us how Diana’s compassion and others who were on the front lines can be an inspiration to those currently dealing with the Opioid crisis.
