Weird, it seems, has recently been weaponized as a political hand grenade, lobbed by Democrats squarely at the Republicans, and especially their headline act, Donald Trump.
But what exactly is weird, anyway?
Does it just mean something quirky or offbeat? Or is there more at play in the bruising tug-of-war between blue and red?
And then there’s the companion noun: weirdo. Democrat VP hopeful Tim Walz didn’t hold back, tossing that zinger at his Right-wing rivals like it was an underhand softball.
But here’s the twist—the label “weird” stretches beyond this political squabble.
Artists, poets, philosophers, scientists, visionaries, geeks, freaks, and even regular folks like you and me—who haven’t behaved a little weird now and then? Some of humanity’s most significant leaps send were dreamt up by people you call “weird”—their so-called oddities sparking genius innovations.
So, if you flip the script, Walz’s weird bomb even be seen as a backhanded compliment rather than a smackdown.
But here’s the rub: when Democrats roll out the “weird” or “weirdo” label, they’re really trying to paint Republicans as the baddies. Does this verbal shade land the way they intend? Not likely.
If anything, the Democrats need to sharpen their jabs and go for a fresh barb.
Because, after all, Trump’s been hurling insults with the ease of a fast-food drive-thru—throwing Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and the whole Democratic crew into his personal roast.
Hey, Democrats, listen, it is time for a better punchline.
