Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden star in Amazon Prime’s latest spy thriller Citadel is full of suspense and action shot in locations around the world that is pleasing audiences globally. Citadel is an American spy action thriller television series created by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil for Amazon Prime Video, with the Russo brothers acting as executive producers.
Agents Nadia Sinh (Chopra) and Mason Kane (Madden), are lost international secret agents who have lost their memories. The plot unravels as they discover who they are and their past. This a powerful role for Chopra where she is billed equally with Madden as a secret agent which is usually dominated by men. This is also the first time she is being paid parity with her co-star and has opened doors for parity pay in further productions.
This also the first time she has played as a strong lead in any production including Bollywood. She gives a lot of depth to the character of Nadia Sinh who is a senior agent to Mason Kane. This is a stronger role for her following Quantico.
With a production budget of US$300 million, the six-episode first season ranks as one of the most-expensive television shows. In March 2023, the series was renewed for a second season.The first season premiered on April 28, 2023, with its first two episodes.Critics had mixed opinions on the series.
Citadel will include spin-off shows in different languages set in the Italian Alps, India, Spain, and Mexico. The Indian series, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will be directed by Raj & DK.The Italian series will be co-produced by Amazon Studios and Cattleya, part of ITV Studios.
