Sinners, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, historical multi-genre thriller with a lot of suspense that will keep you griped to your seats.
Set the in the deep South in the early 1930s post slavery racial divide. It opens with a church scene where a group of blues singers are sunned because blues music is considered sinful in this church.
These sinners had found their liberation through blues music and found ways to express it. The Church had been used to repress their expression though banning of blues music. The liberation from church and conflict between good and evil comes out through possession by vampires.
There are hidden truths that come out the film including the KKK who are in hiding post slavery south but have position of privilege. The struggle for liberation is expressed through violent ways with unexpected turns and ending.
The masterful production with a brilliant story direction and acting is worthy of best film at the Gloden Globes.
