Nepal Gets First Woman Prime Minister

UN News “After violent anti-corruption protests across Nepal forced former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign, a new leader has been selected. This week, government buildings and officials’ homes were attacked, hundreds of prisoners escaped from three jails amid the chaos, crowds set fire to the parliament building and more than 50 people died amid the riots.

Nepal’s former Supreme Court chief justice Sushila Karki has become the country’s interim prime minister, she is the first woman to hold this position. Additionally, Parliament was dissolved and elections have been scheduled for March of 2026. Karki has been celebrated by Gen-Z citizens who led the movement to oust the former prime minister. She is seen as having a clean reputation.
